During Pentecost holidays 2017 in Italy Friedrich is seeing a camping family that stores a lot of luggage in a box trailer. In this moment he has the idea to develop a tent trailer based on such a box trailer: Compact and with an enormous storage space for all family luggage, quick to load and suitable for comfortable camping with the whole family.

Countless sketches and models are created until he has the plan for the farfalla camper – farfalla like the Italian word for the butterfly, because Friedrich’s trailer unfolds like a butterfly and can change the location within a minimum of time.

But Friedrich is not able to build trailers and tents. Therefore, he is looking for partners who can do that, and he finds them at Unsinn Fahrzeugtechnik GmbH and at Mayr Planen und Zelte. These specialists, established for decades, ensure that the farfalla camper is technologically mature right from the start. And because these companies are all located in southern Bavaria, coordination is easy and distances are short.
